Assistant Coordinator of Events & Communications
The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce is looking to fill the position of Assistant Coordinator of Events & Communications. The position performs a wide range of support duties for the Chamber Staff, and the organization’s programs, events, and members; all to facilitate efficient day-to-day operations.
Main Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- assist with organizational events under the supervision of the Director of Events and Membership
i.e. – Winter Games, Walleye Weekend, 4th of July Fireworks, Golf Tournament, Oktoberfest, Annual Meeting
- as directed and needed, assist with programs and projects
i.e. – Iowa Navy Commodores Chamber Ambassadors, Business After Five, Ribbon Cuttings, Plaque Presentations
- answer, screen and transfer inbound phone calls
- receive and direct individuals and members interested or participating in events/programs/projects
- general clerical duties including photocopying and mailing
- perform both pre and post-event/program/project related tasks with direction
- create and modify documents via (Canva, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite programs)
- oversee website content and social media campaigns, including but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat.
- weekly email campaigns, membership and event promotions, monthly newsletter
- attend Chamber functions as required and requested; at times, after hours are required
Education and Experience:
- minimum of one year of experience in a professional work environment
- strong computer skills and knowledge of relevant software, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite related programs (docs, slides, sheets), basic photo editing, social media applications (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn)
- knowledge of standard office operations – clerical and administrative procedures and systems such as filing and record keeping

Work Environment:
Majority of duties will be performed in and from the Chamber’s office during regular business hours. At program and event peak times, the position will be required to cover hours outside of the typical work week and work hours. Some travel and work off-site will be required, as well as occasional work on evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Time Commitment:
The ideal candidate would be considered for either full or part-time, with hours ranging from 30-40 hours per week with additional hours expected during peak event/project time.
Position and Salary:
Salary dependent on experience and qualifications, benefits offered to full-time employees.
