June 9 | Primary Color Trees!
Students will visit the gallery to view paintings by Milt Heinrich then make their own trees on canvas inspired by his work using primary and secondary colors!
June 16 | Clay 3D Shape Sculpture
In this workshop, students will learn tips and tricks to creating shapes out of air-dry clay. Each piece will stack to create a sculpture on a wooden base that will be painted with detail. Pieces will be ready to take home that day or left to dry overnight.
June 23| “Glass” Flowers
Young students will be introduced to the idea of glass blowing by creating flowers out of plastic cups colored by sharpies. These “glass” flowers inspired by artist Dale Chihuly, will be melted by an adult while the students decorate wooden plaques where the flowers will be adhered and ready to hang!
July 7 | Stamped Pinch Pots
Create your very own bowl of clay using the pinch pot technique! Instructors will guide students step by step through making a pinch pot out of clay, students will then use stamps to make patterns. Pieces will be finished by painting with underglaze and left to dry, where they will be kiln fired and ready to pick-up within two weeks.
July 14 | Collage Fish
Adorn a wooden fish with a variety of materials such as paint, scrapbook papers, and thin metals to create an aquatic artwork inspired by artist Mary Ament’s found object fish sculptures.
July 21 | Silly Animal Portraits
Using black and white animal photography, students will select an animal, collage onto heavy-weight paper, and add silly things such as top hats, bows, guitars, and more from the imagination! Freeform shape pieces painted in acrylics will adorn the backgrounds creating the silliest portrait you ever did see!
July 28 | Oil Pastel Plein Air
Students will use oil pastels on board as we explore the grounds of the PLAC and the process of Plein Air, or painting out in the open. Although shade and water will be provided, a hat is suggested as well as sunscreen. In case of implement weather, students will be located in the atrium.
August 4 | Flowers & Fruit
Learn to draw flowers and fruit as we view them in real life as a still life! Participants will create these artworks using chalk pastels on toned pastel paper, learn to blend with tools, and finish with a preserving spray
