January 7 & 14: Ink Jewelry -Experience how alcohol ink colors mix on metal pendants that students will hand-make. After the ink dries, we will explore the beading process and add to our pendant design to create a necklace! Class Location: Youth Studio
January 21 & 28: Interesting Architecture -On a large 18×24” toned paper, students will use a variety of unusual tools to “paint” and “build” their own building; collaging pieces of painted papers along the way to create their own statement architecture. Class Location: Youth Studio
February 4, 11, 18, 25: Pinch Pot Weaving ** Four Week Course -Participants in this four-week class will learn the basics of making clay pinch pots by hand- rolling, attaching, and smoothing coils to make a large, medium, and a small dish that will be a nesting set of 3 when completed. Students will also add an unusual decoration to the rim of each bowl with woven basketry caning. Class Location: Clay Studio
March 4 & 11: Fredrick Brown Expressive Painting -Let color and movement guide your creative energy in this two-week class as we learn about the painter Fredrick Brown. Study real Fredrik Brown paintings pulled from our very own PLAC Collection, learn about Brown’s life, work, and painting process as you create your very own expressive painting on canvas inspired by Brown. Class Location: Youth Studio
March 18 & 25: Underglaze Printing on Clay -Using underglaze paints made especially for clay, students will roll out a large clay slab on the slab roller, form by draping it into a shallow bowl form, and create a design they can coat with underglaze to print multiple times. Pieces will be left to dry and go through the firing process in the kiln. Please allow two weeks finishing time- PLAC staff will call for pick up upon completion. Class Location: Clay Studio
April 8 & 15: Color & Line with Liquid Watercolors -Let’s explore the Elements of Art – Color and Line in this two-week class! Students will paint on watercolor paper with bold liquid watercolors learning how to use the medium and techniques to make various textures within the paint. After painting, students will layer lines using felt ink pens to create a unique and bright work of art! Class Location: Youth Studio
April 22 & 29: Layered Paper Portrait -Using painted, scrapbook, and construction papers, students will cut, glue and create their own portrait on wood canvas- a work sure to be cherished for years! Class Location: Youth Studio
