The third annual Okoboji Blue Water Festival, which is a celebratory clean water event in the Iowa Great Lakes, will culminate with a prestigious musical act on stage. Michael McDonald, a world-renowned American singer, songwriter, record producer and five-time Grammy winner, will headline the Okoboji Blue Water Festival on Saturday, August 11 in Preservation Plaza at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.
The festival itself will be a daylong celebration to raise public awareness of water quality issues in the Iowa Great Lakes and across the state. Event chairman Greg Drees said clean water is the theme of the gala. “It’s all about protecting and enhancing the water quality of our lakes, rivers and wetlands,” Drees said. “This will be our third festival, and it promises to be even bigger than the first two.”
The festival will feature a diversity of activities in the green space during the afternoon, concluding with the concert that evening. According to Drees, “Preservation Plaza will be a hub of activity in the afternoon with 37 water quality exhibitors lining the sidewalk that goes through the greenspace.” In addition an array of fun-filled and clean water-themed activities will be available for kids and families. Two distinguished panels of speakers will address clean water issues in the state of Iowa, while Tommy Skarlis, professional angler and Iowa native, will offer anglers a special fishing seminar centered around the theme of clean water. The festival will culminate with the incomparable Michael McDonald on stage that night.
