The Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce (IGLA) has announced a new initiative in advance of the nationwide Small Business Saturday® holiday on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Beginning Thursday, October 27, 2021, the IGLA Chamber will launch “30 Days to Shopping Small” to promote local businesses and encourage the community to shop local this holiday season.
On each of the thirty days leading up to Small Business Saturday®, the IGLA Chamber will promote local businesses through social media, including video features of various locations where you can shop, eat, and support local business.
On Saturday, November 27, 2021, the official Small Business Saturday® nationwide holiday, members of the Chamber staff will be out in the community surprising random shoppers with gifts and prizes.

You might not realize it, but every time you buy a coffee at your favorite neighborhood spot or purchase a gift from the local shop down the street, you're shopping small and making a difference. By shopping small and shopping local, you actually get so much more than those physical items. When you shop at local small businesses, you support all the things that make the Iowa Great Lakes Area great. The money you spend there, stays there. Right here in this place you call your neighborhood.
For every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. So when you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday, and all year long, you are creating a large impact on your local community.
Millions of individuals, businesses and communities have embraced the Small Business Saturday movement nationwide! The movement is celebrated annually on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, Shop Small Saturday will take place on November 27, 2021. As a business, we invite you to participate by actively promoting Small Business Saturday in your business. As a neighbor, we encourage you to go out and support your local business community.
There are several ways to get involved in Small Business Saturday. You can go shopping or dining at a local small businesses. You can tell others to be a part of the movement or share with your own network how you're supporting small businesses in our neighborhood. Anything you can do helps to give small businesses the support they need to keep creating jobs, powering the economy and helping the Iowa Great Lakes Area thrive year round.
